ServiceM8 review (UK, 2026)
Quick answer
ServiceM8 is a job management app that charges by jobs, not people. The UK free plan covers 30 jobs a month for one user, then paid plans run from £25 to £269 a month with unlimited users. It is our best-value pick, but its certificates are generic forms and it has no Sage link.

ServiceM8 is the job management app we rate as the best value for UK trades, thanks to a free plan and pricing based on jobs rather than people. We compared its UK pricing, features and user reviews on 12 October 2026. Here is who it suits, and the catches UK buyers should know about.
Is ServiceM8 worth it? Our verdict in brief
ServiceM8 is our best-value pick and best free plan for UK trades. Its pricing model is the opposite of most rivals. Instead of paying for each person, you pay for how many jobs you do each month, and every paid plan includes unlimited users. For a firm with eight engineers doing a steady 120 jobs a month, that can mean £59 a month instead of nearly £300.
The downsides are UK-specific. We found no named UK certificates (no ready-made EICR or CP12 gas safety record), only generic PDF forms. There is no Sage link. The Android app lacks a handful of features the iPhone app has. And because you pay by job, costs climb fast if you do lots of small, quick jobs.
Our verdict
Buy ServiceM8 if you have several staff but a moderate number of jobs (installers, maintenance teams, locksmiths, cleaners, pest control, appliance repair), you use Xero or QuickBooks, and you do not need UK gas or electrical certificate templates. Skip it if you issue EICRs or gas safety records every week, your accountant uses Sage, or you do hundreds of small call-outs a month with a small team. In those cases Tradify or Powered Now will suit you better.

What does ServiceM8 do well?
Unlimited users on every paid plan
This is ServiceM8's standout feature. On Starter (£25) and above, you can add as many office staff, engineers and apprentices as you like at no extra cost. Most rivals, including Tradify, Powered Now and Commusoft, charge per user. For a firm with lots of people, that is a big saving.
A genuinely useful free plan
The free plan covers one user and 30 jobs a month. That is enough for a part-time sole trader or someone testing the waters before going self-employed full time. Among the core apps we compared (Tradify, ServiceM8, Jobber, Fergus, Powered Now and Commusoft), ServiceM8 is the only one with a free plan.
Strong, polished iPhone app
The App Store version rates 4.5 from about 1,200 ratings (GB, checked 12 Oct 2026), and it covers iPad, Apple Watch and even Apple Vision. Extras like Room Scan and AR measuring (using the phone camera to measure a room) are clever touches for quoting.
Lots of optional add-ons
Rather than cramming everything into one plan, ServiceM8 lets you switch on what you need: supplier invoice import, job costing, markup billing, recurring jobs and reminders, "Track My Arrival" (a live map for customers showing when you will turn up) and its own phone system. That keeps the core app simple.
Tight Xero and QuickBooks links
ServiceM8 is a Xero Preferred App and an Intuit Platinum App Partner for QuickBooks. On the UK Xero App Store it scores 4.56 from 349 reviews (checked 12 Oct 2026), which suggests the sync works well for most users.
Where does ServiceM8 fall short?
No named UK certificates
ServiceM8 says it can "produce PDF forms, certificates and reports". That is generic. We did not find a ready-made EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) or CP12 (the landlord gas safety record) on its pages. Electricians and gas engineers would need to build their own form or pay for a separate certificate app. Tradify and Powered Now both include named UK certificates.
No Sage integration
ServiceM8 links to Xero and QuickBooks, and Capterra also lists MYOB (popular in Australia). We found no Sage link. Many UK bookkeepers use Sage, so check before you commit.
Job-based pricing can bite small, busy teams
If you are a two-person drain clearance or locksmith business doing 400 short call-outs a month, you need the Premium plan at £119. On per-user pricing, two people on Tradify Pro would cost £74. Job-based pricing rewards big teams with fewer jobs, not small teams with lots of quick ones.
Android is slightly behind iPhone
ServiceM8's help centre now says Android "supports most of the same workflows as the iOS app", so this is far less of an issue than it used to be. But on Android you still cannot use Room Scan, 3D and AR measuring, draw diagrams, edit or fill PDFs from attachment previews, fully tag photos in the camera, or switch on Tap to Pay for the first time. Android 8.0 or later is required, and Android 13 or later with NFC for Tap to Pay.
UK presence is unclear
We could not confirm a UK office or UK support hours. The App Store seller is an Australian company, Eroldawn Pty Ltd. That does not stop UK firms using it happily, but if local phone support matters to you, ask during the trial.
Add-on costs are not all published
The pricing page shows ServiceM8 Phone "from £15/mo" and says "fees apply" for the website and email add-on. We did not find prices for every add-on, so your real bill may be higher than the plan price.
How much does ServiceM8 cost per month?
| Plan | Price a month | Jobs a month | Users | Text messages included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | £0 | 30 | 1 | 0 |
| Starter | £25 | 50 | Unlimited | 100+ |
| Growing | £59 | 150 | Unlimited | 300+ |
| Premium | £119 | 500 | Unlimited | 1,000+ |
| Premium Plus | £269 | 1,500+ | Unlimited | 3,000+ |
Prices are in pounds (the page itself says "Prices are in GDP", a typo for GBP). VAT treatment is not stated on the pricing page, and no annual discount is shown. Extra text messages cost 5p each on all plans. Extra jobs cost 15p each, but the page only lists this on Premium Plus, so on lower plans expect to move up a plan when you outgrow your allowance.
Quick examples: a sole trader doing 40 jobs a month pays £25 (£300 a year). A 3-person team doing 120 jobs pays £59 (£708 a year). An 8-person team doing 400 jobs pays £119 (£1,428 a year). For more team sizes and the extra costs, see our ServiceM8 pricing breakdown.
Is ServiceM8 worth the money?
Here is how ServiceM8 compares with per-user pricing for three typical UK firms. We use Tradify Pro (£37 per user) and Powered Now Professional (£32 per user, ex VAT) as the per-user benchmarks, because both include UK certificates.
| Firm | ServiceM8 | Tradify Pro | Powered Now Professional |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 person, 25 jobs a month | £0 (Free) | £37 | £32 ex VAT |
| 3 people, 120 jobs a month | £59 (Growing) | £111 | £96 ex VAT |
| 8 people, 400 jobs a month | £119 (Premium) | £296 | £256 ex VAT |
| 2 people, 450 jobs a month | £119 (Premium) | £74 | £64 ex VAT |
The pattern is simple. The more people you have for each job, the better ServiceM8 looks. The more jobs each person does, the better per-user apps look. But the cheaper bill only holds if you do not need UK certificate templates or Sage. If you would need to pay for a separate certificate app as well, add that cost to the ServiceM8 column before you decide.
How to pick your plan: count last month's jobs from your diary or invoices, then add 20% for busy months. Choose the plan whose job limit sits above that number. Then ask ServiceM8 during your trial exactly what counts as a job, for example whether a quote that is never accepted uses up your allowance.
ServiceM8 features in detail
Job-count pricing and unlimited users
Covered above, but worth repeating because it shapes everything: you never pay more for adding a person. That makes ServiceM8 attractive for firms with apprentices, part-time office help or seasonal staff.
Quoting, invoicing and payments
You can quote and invoice on site, take invoice payments online and take contactless card payments on your phone with Tap to Pay. That last one means no separate card reader for many jobs.
Scheduling and dispatch
The office can schedule jobs and staff and dispatch urgent jobs to whoever is nearest. ServiceM8 can track staff GPS locations, and auto-routing helps plan the day. Online booking is available for customers.
iPhone vs Android differences
Both apps handle the core work: jobs, photos, notes, quotes, invoices and payments. The iPhone app adds the measuring, drawing and PDF editing tools listed above. If your team is mostly on Android and you rely on drawings or AR measuring, test those first.
Add-ons
ServiceM8 lists add-ons including Supplier Invoice Import, Job Costing, Markup Billing, Recurring Jobs and Reminders, Track My Arrival, asset management and ServiceM8 Phone (from £15 a month, with the first month free on any standard plan). Purchase orders and stock control were not mentioned on the pages we checked.
Forms and certificates
ServiceM8 can produce PDF forms, certificates and reports. For general job sheets, risk assessments and sign-off forms this is fine. For regulated UK certificates, see the gap described above.
Xero and QuickBooks
Invoices and payments flow into Xero or QuickBooks. We found no Sage or FreeAgent link, and no Making Tax Digital feature in the app itself. You handle MTD through your accounting software.
Timesheets
ServiceM8 lets staff "track time on site". We could not confirm a full timesheet module with payroll export, so check this during the trial if you pay staff by the hour.
AI features
A competitor's blog reports new AI tools in ServiceM8, such as a writing helper and quoting assistant. We could not confirm these on ServiceM8's own pages, so we have not counted them in this review.
What do users say about ServiceM8?
These are third-party ratings, not our score. We do not give our own star rating.
| Platform | Score | Number of reviews |
|---|---|---|
| Capterra UK | 4.5 out of 5 | 311 |
| Trustpilot | 4.1 out of 5 | 118 |
| App Store (GB) | 4.5 out of 5 | About 1,200 ratings |
| Google Play | Not confirmed (the page did not load when we checked) | n/a |
| Xero App Store (UK) | 4.56 out of 5 | 349 |
| G2 | 3.8 out of 5 | 15 (a small sample) |
ServiceM8 scores well where there are lots of reviews (Capterra UK, the App Store, Xero). Its Trustpilot score of 4.1 is decent but behind Tradify's 4.8 from 610 reviews and Powered Now's 4.7 from 564 reviews.

Who is ServiceM8 best for?
| Business | Fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Part-time sole trader (under 30 jobs a month) | Excellent | The free plan costs nothing |
| Sole trader (31 to 50 jobs a month) | Good | £25 a month, cheaper than any per-user rival we compared |
| 3 to 10 people, under 150 jobs a month | Excellent | £59 a month for the whole team |
| 2 to 3 people, 300 or more quick jobs a month | Weak | You need Premium (£119), and per-user apps may be cheaper |
| Gas engineers and electricians issuing certificates | Weak | No named UK certificates found |
| 11 or more people | Good | Unlimited users keeps costs flat as headcount grows |
By trade: ServiceM8 lists electrical, plumbing, HVAC, cleaning, locksmiths, pools, pest control, lawn care and appliance repair. In the UK it fits best where certificates are not central: locksmiths, pest control, cleaning, appliance repair, handyman and installation teams. Plumbers who do not do gas work can use it well too.
Growing firms: ServiceM8 is also a sensible choice if you plan to take on staff. Adding an apprentice or a second engineer does not change your bill, so you can grow headcount without reworking your software budget. The time to review is when your monthly job count is about to cross a plan limit (50, 150 or 500 jobs), because that is when the price jumps.
What are the best alternatives to ServiceM8?
| Software | UK entry price | Pick it instead of ServiceM8 if... |

| Fergus | From £39 a month (list price) | You want job costing and purchase orders (Pro plan) |
| Jobber | US dollar prices only on the UK page | You run domestic cleaning or gardening and want a client hub |

Frequently asked questions
Is ServiceM8 any good?
Yes, for the right business. It is rated 4.5 from 311 reviews on Capterra UK and 4.5 on the GB App Store from about 1,200 ratings (checked 12 Oct 2026). It is strongest for teams with many staff and a steady, modest number of jobs. It is weaker for UK gas and electrical certificate work and for Sage users.
How much does ServiceM8 cost per month in the UK?
ServiceM8's UK pricing page lists Free at £0 (30 jobs), Starter at £25 (50 jobs), Growing at £59 (150 jobs), Premium at £119 (500 jobs) and Premium Plus at £269 (1,500 or more jobs) per month. Paid plans include unlimited users. VAT treatment is not stated on the pricing page.
Is ServiceM8 free?
There is a free plan for one user and up to 30 jobs a month, with no text messages included. It is genuinely useful for a part-time sole trader. Once you go over 30 jobs or add a second person, you need a paid plan, which starts at £25 a month.
Does ServiceM8 work on Android?
Yes. ServiceM8's help centre says the Android app supports most of the same workflows as the iPhone app. A few things are missing on Android: room scanning and AR measuring, drawing diagrams, editing PDFs from attachment previews, full in-camera photo tagging and first-time activation of Tap to Pay. Android 8.0 or later is needed.
Does ServiceM8 work with Sage?
We found no Sage integration. ServiceM8 connects with Xero, where it is a Xero Preferred App, and with QuickBooks, where it is an Intuit Platinum App Partner. Capterra also lists MYOB. If your accountant uses Sage, Tradify links to Sage on every plan.
What is better than ServiceM8?
For small UK teams that issue certificates, Tradify is better: it has named EICR and gas safety certificates from £37 per user and links to Sage. Powered Now is better if you want certificates and Making Tax Digital in one app. ServiceM8 stays the better value for big teams doing a modest number of jobs.
Does ServiceM8 do gas safety certificates?
ServiceM8 says it can produce PDF forms, certificates and reports, but we did not find named UK certificates such as the CP12 gas safety record or the EICR on its pages. You may be able to build your own form, but it will not be a ready-made UK template, so check during the trial.
