Best field service management software for UK businesses
Quick answer
For UK teams of 1 to 10, Tradify (£34 to £44 per user a month) or ServiceM8 (free, then £25 to £269 a month with unlimited users) is enough. Heating firms with 6+ staff should get a Commusoft quote (12-month contract). Maintenance contractors suit Joblogic (from £45 per user, billed annually, usually 24 to 36 months).

Field service management software is sold to everyone from a two-van electrician to a 200-engineer facilities firm, and the right choice depends mostly on your team size and how much planned maintenance you do. We compared eight systems sold in the UK on published £ prices, contract length, minimum users and maintenance features, all checked on 12 October 2026.
What's new: this guide was last updated on 12 October 2026 with current UK prices and contract terms for every product listed.
What is field service management (FSM) software?
Field service management software runs the work your people do away from the office, at customers' homes, sites or buildings. It joins up four things that are often on separate bits of paper:
- Scheduling and dispatch: who goes where and when, with changes pushed straight to the engineer's phone.
- The mobile workforce app: job details, customer history, photos, signatures, checklists, forms and certificates, ideally working offline in a basement or loft.
- Invoicing: turning finished work into an invoice, often on site, and syncing it with Xero, Sage or QuickBooks.
- Assets and inventory: the boiler, air-con unit or fire panel you maintain, its service history, and the parts in each van or store.
Larger systems add planned preventive maintenance (PPM: servicing on a fixed calendar under a contract), service-level tracking, customer portals, subcontractor management and vehicle tracking. That is where the price, the contract and the onboarding effort jump.
Which features matter at which size?
Vendors list hundreds of features. In practice, a handful decide whether the software fits. This is how we would weigh them by team size:
| Feature | 1 to 5 people | 6 to 20 people | 20+ people |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quotes and invoices on a phone | Essential | Essential | Essential |
| UK certificates (EICR, CP12) | Essential if you issue them | Essential if you issue them | Essential if you issue them |
| Accounting link (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks) | Essential | Essential | Essential, often Sage 50 or 200 |
| Drag-and-drop dispatch board | Nice to have | Essential | Essential |
| Recurring jobs and service reminders | Useful | Essential | Essential |
| Asset register and service history | Rarely needed | Useful | Essential |
| Stock across vans and stores | Rarely needed | Useful | Essential |
| Customer portal | Rarely needed | Useful | Expected by commercial clients |
| Fleet and vehicle tracking | Rarely needed | Useful | Often essential |
| Subcontractor portal | Rarely needed | Depends on your model | Often essential |
If most of your "essential" ticks sit in the first column, you are a job management buyer. If you tick asset registers, stock and portals, you are an FSM buyer, and you should expect a sales call, a demo and an onboarding plan rather than a credit card sign-up.
FSM vs simple job management apps: which do you need?
Most small UK trade firms do not need a full FSM system. They need a job management app that does quotes, a diary, job sheets, certificates and invoices well. You can read our comparison of job management software for that end of the market.
| You probably need | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| A job management app (Tradify, ServiceM8) | 1 to 10 people; mostly reactive work and one-off installs; the owner or one admin does the scheduling; you want month-to-month billing |
| A mid-size FSM system (Commusoft, Joblogic, eWorks Manager, WorkPal) | 6 to 50 staff; a full-time office team; service contracts or annual servicing lists; stock across vans or sites; you need reporting by engineer |
| An enterprise FSM platform (simPRO, BigChange) | Multi-trade or multi-site contractor; project work plus maintenance; fleet tracking matters; you can run a proper implementation project |
A simple test: if you have a list of customers whose equipment you service every year under contract, and that list is more than a few hundred, look at FSM systems. If most of your work is new enquiries, start with a job management app.
There is also a middle path. Tradify (recurring jobs from Pro, service reminders on Plus) and ServiceM8 (asset management, plus a recurring jobs add-on) both handle a modest servicing list. A common path is to run one of these until you pass about 10 engineers, then move to Commusoft or Joblogic once the office team is spending more time working around the software than with it. Moving later costs a data migration, but it is usually cheaper than paying for an enterprise system for five years before you need it.

Best for small teams (1 to 10): Tradify and ServiceM8
If you have fewer than about 10 people, you are paying for complexity you will not use if you buy an enterprise system. These two cover dispatch, a mobile app and invoicing at a fraction of the cost and with no long contract.
Best for small UK trade teams
Tradify
From £34 per user per month
Tradify does the field service basics well for a small UK firm: scheduling with Google Calendar sync, live staff locations on a map, timesheets and recurring jobs from Pro, and UK compliance certificates (EICR, gas and oil) from the £37 Pro plan. Xero, Sage and QuickBooks Online are on every plan.
- Month to month, no contract
- UK certificates from Pro
- Trustpilot 4.8 from 610 reviews (checked 12 Oct 2026)
- Per-user pricing adds up past about 8 people
- Basic inventory, no asset register found
- AI features on Plus only
Best value for small teams
ServiceM8
Free (30 jobs a month), then from £25 a month
ServiceM8 prices by job count with unlimited users on paid plans, so adding an apprentice costs nothing. It includes asset management, dispatch for urgent jobs, GPS staff tracking and a customer-facing "Track My Arrival" map. A recurring jobs and reminders add-on handles servicing lists.
- Unlimited users on every paid plan
- Asset management included
- Capterra UK 4.5 from 311 reviews (checked 12 Oct 2026)
- No named UK EICR or CP12 templates found
- A few features iPhone only
- No Sage link found
Best for heating and plumbing firms (6 to 50): Commusoft
Best for heating and plumbing firms with 6+ staff
Commusoft
Quote only (about £59 per user per month per Capterra UK, ex VAT)
Commusoft is a London company founded in 2006 that says it is "specifically designed for businesses with 6 or more staff". All plans include drag-and-drop dispatch and routing, job costing, contract and schedule management, an offline engineer app with custom forms, multi-option proposals, live fleet tracking and 40+ reports. The higher plans add commercial contracts, online booking, multi-location stock control and mass scheduling.
- Strong heating and plumbing focus, including service contracts and asset maintenance
- Customer portal and digitised certificates
- Capterra UK 4.7 from 212 reviews (checked 12 Oct 2026)
- No public price
- 12-month contract
- Onboarding is described as "essential, not optional"; whether it costs extra is not stated
- A Capterra reviewer says phone support is a paid add-on
Pick Commusoft if you have an office team, 6 to 50 engineers and a book of annual boiler services. Skip it if you are under 6 people: Tradify Pro gives you gas certificates for £37 per user with no contract. Our heating engineer software guide goes deeper on gas forms and servicing reminders.
Best for planned maintenance and compliance: Joblogic
Best for planned maintenance and compliance
Joblogic
From £45 per user per month, billed annually (5 users = £225 a month)
Joblogic, based in Birmingham and founded in 1998, covers more than 30 trades and says it serves "7,000+ UK businesses". Its strength is compliance-heavy work: planned maintenance, asset histories, F-Gas and gas certificates, a customer portal, a subcontractor portal, stock control, vehicle tracking and a lone worker module. It links to Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, KashFlow, FreeAgent and AccountsIQ.
- Deep PPM and asset tools
- Widest UK accounting list in this guide
- Trustpilot 4.5 from 370 reviews (checked 12 Oct 2026)
- Most customers sign for 24 or 36 months
- iPhone app rated 1.8 from 201 ratings on the UK App Store (checked 12 Oct 2026)
- Onboarding for complex projects can carry a fee
Pick Joblogic if maintenance contracts and compliance reporting are the core of your business (fire and security, HVAC, refrigeration, water hygiene). Skip it if your engineers' iPhone experience is a priority: test the app hard during the free trial (Capterra UK says it lasts 30 days).
Best for larger multi-trade contractors: simPRO and BigChange
Both now sit in the same group: Simpro Group bought Leeds-based BigChange on 25 October 2024. Neither publishes prices.
simPRO
simPRO (Brisbane, founded 2002) sells one Base Plan with paid add-ons: Digital Forms, Maintenance Planner, Takeoffs (estimating from drawings), Simtrac, SMS and VoIP. It suits electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire, security and solar contractors doing both projects and maintenance. It links to QuickBooks, Xero, Sage and MYOB. Ratings (checked 12 Oct 2026): Capterra UK 3.9 from 150 reviews, G2 4.1 from 483 reviews, UK App Store 4.5 from 176 ratings. Read our simPRO review.
BigChange
BigChange (Leeds, founded 2013, "2,200+" customers) is strongest on fleet: vehicle tracking, fuel and dashcams sit alongside CRM, scheduling and the mobile app. It links to Sage and Xero. Capterra UK lists old per-vehicle prices (JobWatch £69.95 per vehicle per month), which are probably out of date, so treat them as a rough guide only. Ratings (checked 12 Oct 2026): Capterra UK 4.5 from 270 reviews, Trustpilot 3.4 from 147. Visit BigChange's pricing page to request a quote.
Our view: choose simPRO if you do project work (installations from drawings) as well as servicing; choose BigChange if you run a large fleet and vehicle data drives your scheduling. Under 15 engineers, both are likely to be more system than you need.
Budget UK options: eWorks Manager and WorkPal
eWorks Manager
eWorks Manager charges one fee per team, not per user, set by user band. For 1 to 5 users it is £130 (Standard), £141 (Advanced) or £151 (Premium) a month ex VAT. Prices for larger bands are not shown. It covers job sheets, compliance and certificates, stock, assets, auto planning, a customer portal and purchase orders, with a two-way Xero sync plus Sage and QuickBooks links. Ratings are mixed (checked 12 Oct 2026): Capterra UK 4.8 from 21 reviews, Trustpilot 2.5 from 19. Good value for a 5 person team that needs compliance, poor value for a sole trader. See eWorks Manager pricing.
WorkPal
WorkPal (Belfast) is £45 per user per month with a minimum of 4 licences, so at least £180 a month, for teams of 4 to 49. Dedicated onboarding is included with no fee stated. Features include assets, a form builder, an offline mobile app, a client portal, quotes, scheduling and recurring jobs. Capterra UK shows 4.7 from 64 reviews (checked 12 Oct 2026). Note the real site is yourworkpal.com. See WorkPal pricing.
Also worth a look: Klipboard
Klipboard is the 2025 rebrand of Kerridge Commercial Systems, a UK company that took the name from its purchase of Klipboard.IO. Its field service product covers scheduling and dispatch, digital job sheets and forms, timesheets, job costing, stock and purchase orders, planned maintenance, a customer portal, fleet tracking and a built-in CRM, with Xero and QuickBooks links. There are no prices on the vendor site, only demo booking. Capterra UK shows "from £29 per user per month", but that is probably the old Klipboard.IO price, so do not budget on it. Capterra UK 4.6 from 27 reviews (checked 12 Oct 2026). See Klipboard field service.
| Software | 5 users a month | Notes |
|---|---|---|

Scheduling and dispatch: what does good look like?
Scheduling is where FSM software earns its money, so test it first in any trial. Good scheduling means:
- Drag and drop: move a job between engineers or days and the engineer's phone updates instantly. Commusoft and Powered Now Premium both advertise this.
- Location awareness: see where your engineers are now (Tradify and ServiceM8 show staff GPS locations; Joblogic and Commusoft offer vehicle or fleet tracking) so you can send the nearest person to an emergency.
- Routing: order the day's jobs to cut driving. Commusoft includes routing; ServiceM8 lists auto-routing alongside its recurring jobs add-on; Joblogic has an AI Dynamic Scheduler.
- Recurring work: annual services and PPM visits created automatically, with reminders to the customer.
- Customer updates: automatic texts when an engineer is on the way. ServiceM8's Track My Arrival shows a live map.
- Offline working: the engineer app must work with no signal and sync later.
How to test scheduling in a free trial
Most trials last 14 days (Tradify, ServiceM8), so plan the test before you start. We suggest this sequence:
- Load a real week. Import 20 to 30 real customers and book a real week of jobs, not demo data.
- Break the week. On day two, pretend an engineer is off sick and move their jobs. Count how many clicks it takes and check that the other engineers' phones update.
- Add an emergency. Drop an urgent call-out into a full day and see whether the software helps you find the nearest engineer.
- Go offline. Have an engineer complete a job sheet in airplane mode, then reconnect and check that nothing was lost.
- Finish the loop. Raise the invoice from the completed job and check it lands correctly in Xero, Sage or QuickBooks.
- Ask the engineers. If the people on the tools hate the app, they will go back to paper. Their vote counts as much as the office's.
For quote-only systems such as Commusoft, Joblogic and simPRO, ask for a trial or sandbox loaded with your own data, not just a guided demo. Commusoft says a free trial is available but does not give its length, and Capterra UK says Joblogic's trial is 30 days.
The form side matters just as much as the diary. If your engineers still fill in paper sheets, read our guide to digital job sheet apps. If winning work is your bottleneck rather than running it, see our guide to CRM for trades.
Contracts and onboarding: what are the hidden costs?
The monthly fee is rarely the whole bill with larger systems. Check these five things before you sign:
- Contract length. Commusoft is 12 months. Joblogic says most customers sign 24 or 36 months. Over 36 months, Joblogic Standard for 10 users is £16,200 at list price (£45 x 10 x 36). Tradify and Fergus are month to month.
- Onboarding fees. Joblogic says some onboarding projects carry a fee, especially with many integrations, while small customers usually set up for free. Commusoft calls onboarding "essential, not optional" without saying whether it costs extra. WorkPal includes dedicated onboarding.
- Minimum users. WorkPal has a 4 licence minimum. Commusoft is designed for 6+ staff.
- Paid add-ons. Commusoft sells Fleet+, Sales+, AI:den+ and Analytics+. simPRO sells Digital Forms, Maintenance Planner and more. Ask for the full quote with add-ons you will actually need.
- VAT. Commusoft and eWorks Manager prices exclude VAT. Tradify, ServiceM8, Joblogic and WorkPal do not state VAT treatment on their pricing pages, so ask.
What does a 10 person team pay over three years?
Three years is a fair horizon, because it matches a typical Joblogic contract. These are list prices for 10 users. For ServiceM8 we assumed 400 jobs a month (Premium plan, up to 500 jobs).
| Software | Per month | Over 36 months | Contract |
|---|---|---|---|
| ServiceM8 Premium | £119 | £4,284 | Not stated |
| Tradify Pro (£37 x 10) | £370 | £13,320 | Month to month |
| Joblogic Standard (£45 x 10) | £450 | £16,200 | Usually 24 or 36 months |
| WorkPal (£45 x 10) | £450 | £16,200 | Not stated |
| Commusoft (about £59 x 10, indicative) | About £590 | About £21,240 | 12 months |
The gap between the cheapest and dearest line here is over £16,000. That is not a reason to buy the cheapest: a Commusoft or Joblogic customer is paying for service contracts, stock and reporting that ServiceM8 does not try to match. It is a reason to be honest about which of those features you will really use.
Before signing any contract over 12 months, ask in writing: what is the notice period, can you export all your customer, job and asset data in a standard format, and what happens to the price at renewal?
Our verdict
Under 10 people, buy a job management app: Tradify if you issue UK certificates, ServiceM8 if you want unlimited users for a flat fee. Heating firms with 6 to 50 staff should start with a Commusoft quote. Maintenance and compliance contractors should start with Joblogic, but negotiate the contract length. simPRO and BigChange are for larger multi-trade or fleet-heavy contractors.
Frequently asked questions
What is field service management software?
Field service management (FSM) software runs the work your engineers do at customers' sites. It books and dispatches jobs, gives engineers a phone app with job details, forms and certificates, tracks time, stock and vans, and turns finished work into invoices. Bigger systems add planned maintenance, asset records and contract management.
What is the difference between FSM software and job management software?
They overlap heavily. Job management apps such as Tradify and ServiceM8 cover quotes, scheduling, job sheets and invoices for small trade teams. FSM systems such as Joblogic, Commusoft and simPRO add planned maintenance, service contracts, asset histories, multi-site stock and fleet tracking, usually with longer contracts and onboarding projects.
How much does field service management software cost in the UK?
Published UK prices we checked on 12 October 2026 run from free (ServiceM8, 30 jobs a month) and £34 per user a month (Tradify) up to £45 per user billed annually (Joblogic) and £45 per user with a 4 licence minimum (WorkPal). Commusoft, simPRO and BigChange are quote only; Capterra UK shows Commusoft from about £59 per user.
Which FSM software is best for a 10-person heating company?
Commusoft is our pick. It is designed for firms with 6 or more staff, focuses on plumbing and heating, and includes service contracts, drag-and-drop dispatch, stock and fleet tracking. It is quote only, ex VAT, on a 12-month contract. Get a Joblogic quote too if planned maintenance and compliance work is a big share of your income.
Is there free field service management software?
ServiceM8 has a free plan for one user and 30 jobs a month. It is a genuine way to start, but it is a single-user plan. The UK FSM systems built for larger teams, such as Joblogic, Commusoft and simPRO, do not publish free plans.
How long are field service software contracts?
It varies a lot. Tradify runs month to month with no contract. Commusoft uses a 12-month contract paid monthly by direct debit. Joblogic says most customers sign for 24 or 36 months, with 12-month terms available. Always ask for the notice period and data export terms in writing before you sign.
