Tradify and Powered Now are two well-known job management apps that include UK certificates. They look similar on paper, so we compared their UK pricing pages, features and user reviews on 12 October 2026 to find where they really differ.

Is Tradify or Powered Now cheaper?

Powered Now is cheaper on list price at every team size. Both charge per user, so the gap grows as you add people.

Worked examples

Monthly cost on the plan each team would need. Prices checked 12 Oct 2026
TeamTradifyPowered Now (ex VAT)
Sole trader, no certificates£34 (Lite)£28 (Business)
Sole gas engineer or electrician£37 (Pro)£32 (Professional)
3-person team with certificates£111 (Pro)£96 (Professional)
3-person team wanting AI and top-tier extras£132 (Plus)£120 (Premium)
8-person team with certificates£296 (Pro)£256 (Professional)

Two things to watch. First, Powered Now's prices exclude VAT, while Tradify's pricing page does not say either way. If you are VAT-registered you can usually reclaim VAT, so this matters less; if you are not, add 20% to Powered Now's figures. Second, Powered Now gives two months free on annual billing (Professional is £320 a year per user), and Tradify's pricing page showed no annual discount when we checked.

The plan line-ups also differ. Tradify's cheapest Lite plan already includes Xero, Sage and QuickBooks. Powered Now's £28 Business plan is single-user and has no accounting links or certificates, but it does include Making Tax Digital, purchase orders and a free website.

What a year costs

TeamTradify Pro (monthly billing)Powered Now Professional (annual billing, ex VAT)Gap
1 user£444£320£124
3 users£1,332£960£372
8 users£3,552£2,560£992

Over a year, an 8-person team saves close to £1,000 at list price by choosing Powered Now and paying annually. Whether that saving is worth it depends on how much your engineers value Tradify's better-rated phone app and its wider accounting links.

Which is better for quoting and invoicing?

  • Tradify: quotes, invoices and card payments on every plan. Pro adds online quote acceptance, progress invoicing and automatic payment reminders. Plus adds bulk invoicing and purchase orders.
  • Powered Now: quotes and estimates, invoices with payment links, expenses, and supplier invoices and purchase orders on every plan. SumUp handles card payments on site. Premium adds automatic chasing of quotes and invoices.

Verdict: Powered Now for purchase orders on a budget. Tradify for staged jobs that need progress invoicing.

Which has the better scheduling and mobile app?

  • Tradify includes scheduling with Google Calendar sync on all plans, real-time staff locations on a map, and subcontractor scheduling and recurring jobs from Pro. Its iPhone app scored 4.8 from 2.7k ratings on the UK App Store.
  • Powered Now includes a diary on every plan, live GPS tracking, time tracking, team chat, job routing and What3Words from Professional, and drag-and-drop scheduling and appointment reminders on Premium. It runs on Mac and Windows as well as phones, and works offline. Its iPhone app scored 4.1 from 243 ratings.

Verdict: Tradify for the phone app your engineers will use all day. Powered Now if you do your admin on a Windows PC or Mac and want a proper desktop app.

Which is better for UK certificates?

Both cover the certificates most UK gas and electrical trades need, which sets them apart from rivals like ServiceM8 and Jobber.

UK rule reminder: landlords need a gas safety check every year by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and records must be kept for at least 2 years. Software that reminds you when each certificate is due turns compliance into repeat work.

Verdict: Powered Now for value and the size of its form library; Tradify if you also do oil work. For dedicated certificate apps too, see our comparison of gas certificate apps.

Which is better for accounting and Making Tax Digital?

Making Tax Digital (MTD) is HMRC's requirement to keep digital records and send updates through approved software. MTD for Income Tax started on 6 April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000. It extends to income over £30,000 from 6 April 2027 and over £20,000 from 6 April 2028.

  • Powered Now says it is recognised by HMRC for MTD for VAT and MTD for Income Tax, and MTD is built into every plan. VAT return submission is listed from Professional. Xero and QuickBooks links also start on Professional. We found no Sage or FreeAgent link.
  • Tradify does not mention MTD. Instead it links to Xero, Sage and QuickBooks Online on every plan, and those packages handle your MTD filing.

Verdict: Powered Now for a sole trader who wants one app and no separate accounts package. Tradify if you or your accountant already use Xero, Sage or QuickBooks.

What about AI features and extras?

  • Tradify keeps its AI tools for the £44 Plus plan: SmartRead captures supplier bills and SmartWrite helps write job descriptions. Extras include an Instant Website for £10 a month and text messages at £0.10 each.
  • Powered Now puts an AI receipt scanner and AI text writing on its £40 Premium plan, and sells an "A.I. Receptionist" add-on that answers calls and books work (price not shown on the pricing page). Every plan includes a free "Here Is My Work" website, and Professional includes unlimited text and email.

Verdict: Powered Now gives more for free (website, unlimited texts on Professional). AI tools are on the top plan of both, so do not let them decide your choice.

Which offers better UK support?

Both have a real UK presence. Powered Now is headquartered in the UK (Capterra UK lists East Cowes) and offers freephone support on 0800 368 8153, email and in-app chat, plus a one-to-one setup and training session. Tradify has a UK office at 8 Devonshire Square in London, two UK phone numbers and free one-to-one training and phone support. Neither publishes its support hours.

Verdict: a draw. Both beat overseas rivals with no UK office.

How do Tradify and Powered Now compare on reviews?

These are third-party scores, not our own rating.

App Store (UK)4.8 (2.7k ratings)4.1 (243 ratings)

Reviewers rate both highly on Capterra and Trustpilot. The clear difference is the iPhone app, where Tradify is well ahead on both score and number of ratings. G2 samples are small for both.

Which is better for plumbers, electricians, builders and cleaners?

Our pick by trade
TradeOur pickWhy
Sole gas engineer or plumberPowered NowCP12 and service records plus MTD for £32 a month ex VAT
Plumbing and heating team of 3 to 10TradifyBetter-rated engineer app, Xero, Sage and QuickBooks on all plans, oil forms too
ElectriciansTradifyEICRs named, stronger mobile app; Powered Now if MTD matters more
BuildersEitherPowered Now for purchase orders on every plan; Tradify for progress invoicing and Sage
CleanersNeither is idealPer-user pricing gets costly for big cleaning teams; ServiceM8 or Jobber suit better (see our cleaning business software guide)

A simple way to decide: if you work alone, do your own books and want the lowest bill for certificates and tax in one place, start a Powered Now trial. If you employ engineers who will live in the phone app, or your accountant runs Xero, Sage or QuickBooks, start a Tradify trial. Both trials last 14 days, so you can run the same real job through each and compare.

Tradify or Powered Now: our final verdict

Our verdict

Tradify is our best overall pick for small UK trade teams (1 to 10 people). It costs a little more, but its engineer app is far better rated, Xero, Sage and QuickBooks come on every plan and it covers gas, oil and electrical certificates from Pro. Downsides: per-user pricing adds up, inventory is basic and its AI tools are on Plus only.

Powered Now is our best pick for UK certificates and Making Tax Digital on a budget. At £28 to £40 per user ex VAT, with nearly 100 trade forms, HMRC-recognised MTD and Windows and Mac apps, it is excellent value for sole traders and small gas and electrical firms. Downsides: a lower App Store score (4.1), and certificates need the Professional plan.
