Best electrical certificate and EICR software (UK)
Quick answer
For most UK electricians, Tradecert (from £18 a month, BS 7671 A4:2026 forms, Trustpilot 4.9 from 197 reviews) and iCertifi (£125.99 a year including VAT, A4 ready) are the strongest EICR apps. NICEIC and NAPIT members can use their scheme's own software. If you want quotes and invoices too, Tradify Pro (£37 per user) includes EICRs.

Electrical certificate software has one deadline that matters this month: the old BS 7671 forms are being withdrawn, so whatever you use must issue Amendment 4 certificates. We compared every main UK option on A4 readiness, devices and cost over three years, based on vendor pages checked on 12 October 2026.
BS 7671:2018+A4:2026: what changed and why does your software need it?
BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 (Amendment 4 to the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations) was published on 15 April 2026 and could be used straight away. The previous version, BS 7671:2018+A2:2022+A3:2024, is withdrawn six months after publication, which puts the cut-off around mid-October 2026.
For software, the practical change is the forms. Certificates and reports must follow the current model forms, so an app still issuing A3 paperwork leaves you with documents that reference a withdrawn standard. NICEIC has drawn a hard line: from 15 October 2026, NICEIC Online offers only A4:2026 forms, and any A3 forms already open can be edited until 15 April 2027.
We do not cover the technical rule changes in Amendment 4 here; your scheme provider and the IET are the right sources for those. This page is about which software issues compliant A4 forms and what it costs.
How to check your app is A4 ready
- Open a new EICR and look at the form header or footer. It should reference BS 7671:2018+A4:2026.
- Check the version notes in the App Store or Google Play listing for an Amendment 4 update dated after 15 April 2026.
- Ask what happens to reports you started on A3 forms. NICEIC lets open A3 forms be edited until 15 April 2027; other apps may differ.
- If the vendor cannot give a straight answer in writing, treat that as a no.
How do the electrical certificate apps compare?

| Pro Certs | £9.99 a month or £19.99 a quarter (App Store) | Subscription | iPad only | EICR, EIC, Minor Works, emergency lighting, fire alarm, ventilation | Yes (update dated 2 July 2026) |
What should you look for in EICR software?
Beyond A4 readiness, these are the features that save the most time on a typical domestic EICR, based on what the vendors publish:
- Works offline. Consumer units live in cellars and under stairs. Tradecert and NICEIC Online both state offline working.
- Help with observation codes. NICEIC Online has "Code Assist" and NAPIT FastTest includes its EICR Codebreakers guidance. Consistent coding protects you if a landlord disputes a C2.
- Copy last time's report. On a repeat EICR, starting from the previous circuit schedule cuts the write-up time sharply. Ask the vendor whether this is supported.
- The full set of forms you issue. If you also do fire alarms, emergency lighting or EV chargers, check the exact forms. Tradecert lists 15 fire alarm forms; Pro Certs covers fire alarm grades C, D and F only.
- Building Control notification. NICEIC Online states that it can notify Building Control directly. We did not see this claimed on the other product pages we read, so if you do notifiable work and are not with NICEIC, ask your scheme how notifications are handled.
- Devices you already own. Pro Certs is iPad only, NAPIT FastTest does not run on a Mac, and iCertifi needs a recent version of iOS.
iCertifi: best value annual subscription
iCertifi has by far the biggest rating base of the apps we compared: 4.6 from 6.9k ratings on the UK App Store, checked 12 Oct 2026. The 12-month unlimited plan costs £125.99, and iCertifi says its prices include VAT. An Enterprise plan for unlimited engineers costs £399.99 a year. It covers 15 certificate types, including EV charger, solar PV, earthing and bonding, isolation and a landlord's interim check, and the App Store listing confirms A4 support.
Watch the product names. iCertifi also sells a separate "Cloud Pro" product (£24.99 a month or £190 a year, Apple only, 7-day trial) and a PAT testing app. The App Store listing needs iOS or iPadOS 18.4 or later, so older iPads will not run it.
Pick it if you want the cheapest annual cost from an established app and you are happy on Apple or Android. Skip it if you need a desktop Windows workflow.
Tradecert: best rated, works on any device
Tradecert has the highest review score of the independent apps we compared: Trustpilot 4.9 from 197 reviews, checked 12 Oct 2026. It runs on iOS, Android and the web, on unlimited devices, and works offline. Its certificate list is wide, including 4 EV charger forms, 15 fire alarm forms and 4 emergency lighting forms, and certificates default to A4:2026.
The pricing page headline is "from £18 a month", but we could not read the tier details or the VAT treatment, so confirm the plan you need before paying. When we checked, the first month was free with no card using the code WELCOME.
Pick it if you want one subscription across phone, tablet and office PC. Skip it if you want to pay once and own the software.
EasyCert: one-off purchase for desktop users
EasyCert is made by Tysoft in Newcastle and is the main independent one-off purchase option we found. EasyCert Pro costs £174.95 and EasyCert Mobile (Pro plus a mobile app) costs £224.95; VAT treatment is not stated. Tysoft says all its electrical software is updated to Amendment 4. Two cautions: the price of the 12-month Customer Care renewal is not shown, and Capterra lists a different starting price (£194 per user) with no user reviews.
Pick it if you write up reports at a Windows desk and dislike subscriptions. Skip it if you want to finish everything on site from a phone.
NICEIC Online (and Clik NICEIC software): for NICEIC contractors only
NICEIC runs two separate products, and both are only for NICEIC-certified businesses.
NICEIC Online Certification System (NOCS) is cloud-based with no platform fee. You pay for each certificate or notification you use, though per-certificate prices are behind the members' login. It covers all NICEIC-branded certificates, includes "Code Assist" for EICR observations, works offline for the most recent forms, and can notify Building Control directly. From 15 October 2026 it offers only A4:2026 forms.
Clik's NICEIC Cert Software is an installed product from partner Clik Software, sold through the NICEIC shop for £280 ex VAT (£336 inc VAT) with the first year of updates and support included. It runs on Windows, with Clik Cert Electrical apps for iOS and Android. The listing says it supports the latest wiring regulations but does not name the amendment.
Pick NOCS if you issue a modest number of certificates and want Building Control notification in the same place. Pick Clik if you prefer desktop software and issue lots of certificates.
NAPIT FastTest: the NAPIT scheme option
NAPIT is a separate, rival scheme to NICEIC, not part of it. Its software, FastTest, costs £195 ex VAT (£234 inc VAT) as a subscription, though the term was not stated on the page we read. It runs on Windows, Android and iOS phones and tablets and most browsers, but is not compatible with Mac OS. It covers BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 electrical forms plus fire alarm, emergency lighting, EV, solar PV, gas and ventilation, and includes NAPIT's EICR Codebreakers guidance.
Pick it if you are NAPIT registered and do mixed electrical and gas work. Skip it if your office runs on a Mac.
Pro Certs: cheapest monthly option for iPad users
Pro Certs costs £9.99 a month or £19.99 a quarter through the App Store, with a 7-day free trial on the monthly plan. It covers EICR, EIC, Minor Works, emergency lighting (BS 5266-1), fire alarms (BS 5839-6 grades C, D and F) and domestic ventilation, and its version notes dated 2 July 2026 add A4. The catch: it is iPad only, and it had just 3 App Store ratings (average 3.0) when we checked, so there is little user feedback to go on.
Pick it if you work from an iPad and want the lowest monthly cost. Skip it if you want to use a phone or Android device.
What do they cost over 3 years?
Monthly prices hide the real comparison, and one-off software is only cheaper if the yearly cover is modest. Here is the total over three years for one electrician, based on published prices. Where a renewal price is not published, we say so rather than guess.
| Product | Year 1 | 3-year total | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pro Certs (quarterly) | £79.96 | £239.88 | 12 x £19.99; iPad only |
| Pro Certs (monthly) | £119.88 | £359.64 | 36 x £9.99 |
| iCertifi (12 months) | £125.99 | £377.97 | Incl VAT |
| Tradecert | £216 | £648 | Based on the "from £18 ex VAT" headline |
| EasyCert Pro | £174.95 | £174.95 plus 2 years of Customer Care | Renewal price not published |
| Clik NICEIC Cert Software | £280 ex VAT | £280 plus 2 years of Clik Cover | Renewal price not published |
| NAPIT FastTest | £195 ex VAT | Depends on the subscription term | Term not stated on the page we read |
| Powered Now Professional | £320 ex VAT | £960 ex VAT | Includes quotes, invoices and MTD |
| Tradify Pro | £444 | £1,332 | Includes full job management |
Our verdict
Cheapest serious option: iCertifi's annual plan. Best all-device experience: Tradecert. Hate subscriptions: EasyCert, but ask for the renewal price first. In a scheme: use NOCS or Clik (NICEIC) or FastTest (NAPIT) if you value scheme integration. Want quotes, invoices and certificates in one app: Tradify Pro.
Can you get certificates inside job management apps (Tradify, Powered Now, Fergus)?
Yes, and for many electricians this is the better buy, because you stop re-typing the customer's details between your quote, your certificate and your invoice.
- Tradify includes compliance certificates, with EICRs named, from the Pro plan at £37 per user a month (VAT treatment not stated on the pricing page). It is our best overall pick for small UK trade teams, with Xero, Sage and QuickBooks on every plan. Try Tradify free (Ad) or read our full Tradify review.
- Powered Now includes electrical certificates among nearly 100 trade forms on Professional (£32 per user a month ex VAT), plus HMRC-recognised MTD. See our Powered Now review.
- Fergus stores EICRs with the job and says "certificates are free". Its list prices are £39 and £45 a month.
We could not confirm on the pages we checked whether Tradify, Powered Now or Fergus have updated their electrical forms to A4:2026. Check this during the free trial before you issue reports with them.

Landlord EICR rules: 5 years, 28 days, up to £40,000 penalties
Landlord work is a big share of EICRs, so it pays to know the rules your reports feed into. Under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020, now extended to social housing, gov.uk guidance says:
| Rule | Requirement |
|---|---|
| How often | Inspect and test at least every 5 years, to BS 7671 |
| Existing tenants | Copy of the report within 28 days of the inspection |
| New tenants | Copy before they move in |
| Council | Copy within 7 days of a request |
| Remedial work | Within 28 days, or sooner if the report says so |
| Penalty | Up to £40,000 |
| Keep the report | Until the next inspection is due or done |
| Social housing | In force 1 Nov 2025 for new tenancies from 1 Dec 2025; existing tenancies from 1 May 2026, with first inspections before 1 Nov 2026 |
You will often see "£30,000" quoted as the maximum fine. That figure does not appear in the current gov.uk guidance, which says up to £40,000. For your software, the useful features are automatic reminders before the 5-year date and fast emailing of the PDF, so landlords can hit their 28-day deadline.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best electrical certificate software in the UK?
For a sole electrician, Tradecert and iCertifi are the strongest standalone apps we compared: both support BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 and have strong app ratings. NICEIC members may prefer NICEIC Online, which can also notify Building Control. If you want certificates inside full job management, Tradify Pro and Powered Now Professional both include electrical certificates.
Do I need new software for Amendment 4 (BS 7671:2018+A4:2026)?
You need software that issues A4:2026 forms. Amendment 4 was published on 15 April 2026, and the previous version is withdrawn six months later, around mid-October 2026. NICEIC Online offers only A4 forms from 15 October 2026. Most standalone apps have updated already; check any job management app before relying on it.
Can I do an EICR without the 2391 qualification?
Software cannot answer this for you, because it will issue whatever you fill in. Who may carry out an EICR depends on competence, and scheme operators such as NICEIC and NAPIT set their own assessment requirements. Many electricians hold an inspection and testing qualification such as City and Guilds 2391. Check with your scheme before you sign reports.
Is there a free EICR app?
Not a fully free one among the tools we checked. Tradecert offered the first month free with no card (promo code WELCOME) when we checked, and Pro Certs has a 7-day free trial on its monthly plan. iCertifi's separate Cloud Pro product has a 7-day trial. After that, expect roughly £10 to £20 a month.
How often does a rented home need an EICR?
Under gov.uk guidance, landlords in England must have electrical installations inspected and tested at least every 5 years. Existing tenants must get a copy within 28 days of the inspection, new tenants before they move in, and the council within 7 days of a request. Remedial work must be done within 28 days, or sooner if the report says so.
Can I use NICEIC certificate software if I am with NAPIT?
No. NICEIC Online and the Clik NICEIC Cert Software are only for NICEIC-certified businesses. NAPIT is a separate, rival scheme with its own software, NAPIT FastTest, which costs £195 ex VAT (£234 inc VAT). If you are not with either scheme, use an independent app such as Tradecert, iCertifi or EasyCert.
Does Tradify do EICRs?
Yes. Tradify includes compliance certificates, including EICRs, from its Pro plan at £37 per user a month. We could not confirm on the pages we checked whether Tradify's electrical forms are updated to A4:2026, so check this in the free trial before you rely on it for reports.
